Purpose of Lay Servant Ministries:Equipping laity to realize and respond to their call to ministry.
The purpose of the Lay Servant Ministry is to empower and equip laity to serve the Lord in the church. Lay Servant Ministries trains and equips laity to better serve as leaders in the local church. Lay Servants focus on communicating the Scriptures and their faith, providing basic skills in caring for others, and serve their churches/charges in leadership roles. Lay Servants are available to serve the ministries of the local church and may be called to serve in ministry outside their local church in areas such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, senior residences, lead mission projects, VIM Teams, teaching, and caring activities. |
Courses/Trainings:Intentional Discipleship: Jan 16, 23, 30 and Feb. 13, 2018, 6-9 PM at Nimmo UMC in Virginia Beach.
Based on Man In The Mirror Ministries book No Man Left Behind this course is designed to help local congregations be intentional about their ministry and outreach to five basic groups of people: those who do not know Christ; Cultural Christians; Biblical Christians; Spiritual Leaders; and those who are hurting. The model’s design continually builds disciples by moving individuals into a deeper relationship with Christ. The model’s foundation is built on discipleship, church culture and 3-strands of leadership. While designed for reaching men, the model works with all types of ministry. Johnnie Draughon, course facilitator, is the Elizabeth River Ministry Team Leader and is certified by the General Commission of United Methodist Men as a Men’s Ministry Specialist. The class costs $10 for the workbook and is authorized for 1 CEU or as a Lay Servant Advanced course requirement. It is recommended that participants read the book No Man Left Behind either before or during the course. The book is available as an e-book from Amazon. The class is most effective if a team from each church participates. To register, or if you have any questions, contact Johnnie Draughon at: [email protected]. O N L I N E T R A I N I N G
